A GARRISON OF ROSES

Situated in Castle Park at Colchester is a delightful rose that we visited in 2022 and is part of the 11 ha Castle Park, while the castle itself dates back to Norman times and has the larges keep in Europe.

Amongst the roses we found in this small rose garden. which had been set up by the Colchester rose specialists, Cants of Colchester were:

Colchester Beauty

A floribunda rose that was bred by Roger Pawsey of Cants of Colechester by crossing English Miss with an unnamed seedling. It has strongly scented dark pink flowers and grows to about 80cm tall.

Ebb Tide

Bred in the USA by Thomas Carruth, Ebb Tide is a violet floribunda rose that was bred from two unnamed seedlings. It produces a strong spicy fragrance and grows to about 120cm b 120.

Global Beauty

Introduced in 2002 by Tantau Roser, Global Beauty is a hybrid tea rose that was bred by Hans Jergen Evers. It has golden yellow lowers and grows to about 100cm by 75.

Jenny's Rose

It grows to about 120cm tall and is a floribunda rose that Cants bred themselves. It has strongly fragrant light pink flowers.

Just Joey

With buff-orange flowers with a strong fragrance, Just Joey is a hybrid tea rose that Roger Pawsey of Cants roses named after his his wife. Growing to about 120cm by 120, it was bred by crossing Fragrant Cloud with Dr AJ Verhage.

Lady Rachel

Bred by Cants by crossing English Miss with Margaret Merrill, Lady Rachel is a floribunda rose with a strong fragrance. It grows to about 75cm tall and produces flowers that are a blend of white.

Peudouce

Also known as Elina, Peudouse is a floribunda rose that was bred by Patrick and Colin Dickson. Growing to about 120cm by 85, it has light yellow flowers and was bred by crossing Nana Moskouri with Loita.

Red Caviar

A floribunda rose with dark red flowers, Red Caviar was bred by L Pernille Olesen and introduced in 2003. It was bred by crossing Dali Dali with an unnamed seedling and grows to about 100cm by 65.

Remember Me

Bred by Annie Cocker by crossing Alexander with Silver Jubilee, Remember Me is a hybrid tea that has flowers that are a blend of orange. It grows to about 90cm tall.

The Times Roses

With mildly fragrant red flowers, The Times Rose is a floribunda rose that was bred by Reimer Kordes by crossing Tornado with Redgold. It grows to about 90cm by 75.
